Did You Know?

There are 3 main types of insomnia:

  1. Transient insomnia may last only days or weeks or be due to a particular stress or anxiety currently going on in your life, which contributes to the insomnia.

  2. Acute insomnia is when you cannot sleep for periods of between 3 weeks to 6 months.

  3. Chronic insomnia is much longer lasting, even for years, and can cause many other physical and mental problems, or be caused by them (such as Depression). Depression and other disorders which may contribute to lack of sleep can also be helped by Acupuncture

Acupuncture and Insomnia /sleep problems

How many times have you wondered why you wake up feeling tired, as if you haven’t slept? This is a common phenomenon which Acupuncture can help to improve.

Perhaps you can’t get off to sleep, or you wake up at the same time every night and don’t go back to sleep for a few hours, or you think you have slept but you don’t feel as if you are rested? Perhaps you have to get up to go to the toilet at the same time every night which disturbs your sleep, or you have nightmares or restless sleep? Insomnia it should be noted is 1.4 times more common in women than in men and can become worse with age.

In Chinese Medicine all of this is due to an imbalance in your natural rhythms – and each of us has our own unique imbalance which is treated by 5 Element Acupuncture at the root cause in order to bring you to good health and natural wellbeing – unlike taking a sleeping tablet which simply masks the cause of sleeplessness, can be addictive and cause other problems. Acupuncture is drug free and very safe.

How can Acupuncture help with insomnia?

Following the initial Traditional Diagnosis, which takes approximately 1 ½ hours and includes a full review of your medical and lifestyle history, treatment can begin to harmonise any imbalances. Through this harmonisation it is often the case that not only your sleeping, but other aspects of your physical and emotional health may also improve and you can cope better with the rigours of today’s busy lifestyles and feel more like your old self.

By determining the root cause of the sleeplessness, 5 Element Acupuncture can help you to gain relief from sleepless nights and alleviate the stress and anxiety and emotional and physical problems this can then cause.

Remember, each individual is different and 5 Element Acupuncture treats you and your own unique picture of physical, mental and emotional imbalance to help bring you back to a place of good health and wellbeing.
